Molecular Biology (Volume 1)

English | August 5, 2009 | ISBN: 8180940578 | 468 pages | PDF | 4.17 Mb

The term molecular biology was first used in 1945 by William Astbury. He
defined this branch of science as the study of the chemical and physical
structures of biological macromolecules. After several breakthroughs in this
study, the concept of molecular biology was modified. It can be defined as
the biochemistry of genes and of the specific products of genes. It deals
with the molecular basis of biological or genetic specificity. It is concerned
with the fine structure, function and genesis of cells, organelles and
macromolecules of living organisms. It emerges out as a complex field with
the components of genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, physics, organic
chemistry and biophysical chemistry.
