Jimmy Rosenberg - Guitar Genius (The debut concert) (2018)

Jimmy ROSENBERG (1980-) is by many considered the greatest guitar player since Django Reinhardt (1910-1953), regardless of genre. By the latter half of the 1990s, still in his teens, his fame rose to astronomical heights, but so also his drug abuse, and by 2004 it was over. Jimmy Rosenberg imploded at the age of 24, and has not come back to the limelight since. But on January 22nd 1992 things were bright, Jimmy was 12 years old and it was time for his debut concert. It took place at the Django festival in Oslo, and the expectations were sky high. This recording is that debut concert, in its entity, and in the order as it was played – a historic moment captured for posterity by producer/guitar player Jon Larsen, who had met Jimmy the year before, and liked what he had heard, a lot. The two musicians Jimmy and Angelo Debarre (29) were introduced at the soundcheck, so this is the sweetness of the very first meeting. Backstage were also the two guitar heros Birli Lagrene and Philip Catherine. The moment Jimmy Rosenberg was entering the stage, he asked Philip Catherine if he could borrow his Electric guitar – so his debut concert was played half on el-guitar and half on accoustic, on one occasion both in the same number! Jimmy was unpredictable, right from the beginning. This amazing concert show how brilliant Jimmy Rosenberg was already at the age of 12. Still today, 25 years later it is not possible to understand how an illiterate gypsy child could play like this at his age – a true guitar genius! Produced by Jon Larsen.
