"Some records arrive out of necessity; others by chance. Triphasic is the sound of what happens when both urgency and circumstance give way to clarity. For the first time, The Dam Jawn, an Amsterdam-based collective that originally began in Philadelphia, entered the studio with time to prepare, space to breathe, and music that had already lived on the stage. The result is their third album, Triphasic, recorded in early 2025 together with New York trumpeter Jeremy Pelt: grooving, coherent, and most of all, alive with possibility. The album will be released on Dox Records, November 28, 2025.
As its title suggests, Triphasic unfolds in three currents: the coming together of five equal voices as composers; a sound that pushes into grooves and electronics without losing its acoustic heart; and the spark of an outside presence in Pelt, whose artistry brought every detail into sharper focus. These elements converge into a record that feels at once grounded and wide open.
Over the span of their two previous records, The Dam Jawn has learned to thrive on circumstance. That spirit carried them to a pivotal moment at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2024. Originally slated to perform with Dick Oatts, their former mentor, the band instead partnered with Jeremy Pelt. They wrote a brand-new set for the occasion, and the onstage chemistry was undeniable.
Pelt’s role in Triphasic cannot be overstated. Long recognized as one of today’s leading trumpeters, Pelt brings not just his sound but his sensibility into the music. He carries the lineage of Freddie Hubbard and Lee Morgan into the present while constantly seeking new horizons. This proves a perfect match for The Dam Jawn’s broad palette, whose versatility spans from fiery bop to lyrical modernism and atmospheric textures. Whether driving the pulse of a greasy boogaloo, weaving into layered horn arrangements, or opening up the music with spacious improvisation, Pelt illuminates. He adds weight and depth while amplifying what is already at the core of The Dam Jawn’s identity: a balance of gravitas and freedom that anchors Triphasic firmly within the New York jazz spirit.
What makes Triphasic compelling is that it feels both like an arrival and a departure. The Dam Jawn has grown into a band proud of its story, but unwilling to stand still. Triphasic is a marker of how far they’ve come: a milestone, and at the same time an invitation to follow them into what comes next.
