Janis Joplin - The TV Collection (2016) FLAC/MP3

Superb collection of Janis' best broadcasts. After splitting from Big Brother, Joplin formed new backup group, the Kozmic Blues Band, composed of session musicians. The band was influenced by the Stax-Volt rhythm and blues bands of the 60s. By early 69, Janis was allegedly shooting at least $200 worth of heroin per day. The Kozmic Blues Band performed on several American television shows with Joplin. On the Tom Jones show, they performed Little Girl Blue and Raise Your Hand, the latter with Jones singing a duet with Joplin. On one episode of The Dick Cavett Show, they performed Try (Just a Little Bit Harder) as well as To Love Somebody. As Cavett interviewed Joplin, she admitted that she had a terrible time touring in Europe, claiming that audiences there are very uptight . The Kozmic Blues album, released in September 1969, was certified gold later that year, but did not match the success of Cheap Thrills. Janis performed at Woodstock starting her set at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, 17th August. She followed Creedence Clearwater Revival. Despite her reportedly not even knowing of the festival's existence until a few days earlier, the Woodstock promoters advertised her as a headliner. Among Joplin s last public appearances were two more broadcasts for The Dick Cavett Show. In a 25th June 1970 appearance, she announced that she would attend her ten-year high-school class reunion. When asked if she had been popular in school, she admitted that her schoolmates "laughed me out of class, out of town and out of the state". In a subsequent Cavett broadcast on 3th August 1970, Joplin discussed her upcoming performance at the Festival for Peace to be held at Shea Stadium three days later. During late August, September and early October 1970, Joplin and her band rehearsed and recorded a new album in Los Angeles with producer Paul Rothchild, who had produced recordings for The Doors. Joplin died before all the tracks were fully completed, but there was enough usable material to compile an LP; this became her final studio album Pearl, released posthumously. Janis Joplin passed away, following an overdose of heroin, on 4th October 1970. This compilation CD features tracks recorded for TV during 1968, 1969 and 1970 and includes the Dick Cavett and Tom Jones show appearances mentioned above. The CD also includes her 1968 performance at the Newport Folk Festival with Big Brother and The Holding Company. A fine tribute to a remarkable woman, this release will prove a delight for all the fans still flying the flag for arguably the finest white soul and blues singer ever to emerge.
