For Bjørn Berge, Morphine has been a long-standing musical inspiration. Since the 1990s, the band’s raw and minimalist approach — built around baritone saxophone, two-string bass and a hypnotic groove — has left a lasting impression on the Norwegian guitarist.
“Morphine was something completely unique. They had groove, rawness and soul in a way that struck me immediately, and that still inspires me today,” says Berge.
On the new album, Berge revisits selected songs from the Morphine catalogue, reshaping them through his own blues-rooted style. Instead of the band’s signature baritone saxophone, Berge introduces a baritone guitar, bringing a new sonic texture while preserving the dark atmosphere that defined the original recordings.
