"New Kind Of Medicine" is the third single by Baltimore-born singer, songwriter, and DJ Ultra Naté, originally released in 1998 on Strictly Rhythm Records as part of her landmark album Situation: Critical. Co-written with British production outfit D'Influence — Ed Baden-Powell, Kwame Kwaten, and Sarah Webb — the track blends late-1990s garage house with an infectious disco-pop sensibility: a Chic-influenced groove, clean electric guitar lines, and Naté's rich, earthy alto, which Billboard's Larry Flick praised as the voice of a supreme singer coming fully into her own.
The single reached the top 20 in the UK and Scotland, and cracked the top 30 in Iceland, while landing at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart in the United States. The parent album Situation: Critical sold over 150,000 copies in the US alone by mid-1999, with "Free" and "Found A Cure" also charting internationally.
